This week in Kindergarten we have been working on the letter C! C is for cupcakes, cookies, Cars, Coloring, ect. We have also been working on number words and finishing up the first chapter in math which focused on numbers 1-5.
Pig in a Wig…. This week was all about short i. We also continued with ck and started on the ick family. Students has fun doing different days of the week songs, fun spelling games, and talking about scheduling activities. We had some interesting conversations with our new words of wig, jig, and tap. We took a set back with grammar and took another look at what makes a complete sentence. This is a skill we will be working on the entire year but please help by reminding students that sentences start with a capital and end in a punctuation (working on periods and question marks right now).
This week we took a trip to the ranch and learned about cowboys. Students wrote about why they would want to be a cowboy/cowgirl and even had the chance to try their hand at a lariat. We worked hard on long vowels I and o, which we will revisit next week. In science, students finished their chapter on plants, learning about how the plants get food and the different parts of a plant. And in math, subtraction was the name of the game!
Movement- Kinesthetic Learning
This week we did a lot of movements with our learning. First graders had fun making the letter shapes or movements for their spelling words, 2nd graders were able to use shaving cream to work on subtraction problems, and other students went hunting for shapes found in furniture around the room to feel and trace. Any time you can connect a movement to information, it gives your mind something more to grasp onto and helps it remember it later. With first and second grade, I have attached the long and short vowel sounds to arm movements.
Fun ending of the week!
The North Ward staff was challenged by the East Prairie staff to participate in the Ice bucket challenge..... It was a cold ending to my Friday!
