WoW! this week has been full! Not only was this a short week but as we have ended the quarter, it is also the time that I am getting your students progress reports completed. Therefor, we have been doing more formal assessments this week on top of our typical week.
As we start a new quarter, I am going to be trying out a few new ideas, strategies, and techniques to ensure I am meeting all of your students needs. Shortly you will notice paper books coming home in zip-lock bags. These books are to help students learn sight words and continue to practice reading skills at home. The books are not to be written on. However, each book will come with an activity or word cards. Those can be written on a used for games at home. When you are done with the book, please send it and their reading log back to school. There will be a class party at the end of the quarter if they fill their reading log up.
We are now up in the upper teen numbers and starting on the 20s! We also have been working really hard on increasing our vocabulary skills with sight word books!
They are rocking out the addition and subtraction facts and have now moved on to working with 2 digit addition!!!! We also are finishing up our two week unit on the Bug Bath! During this unit we had some interesting discussions about perspective of tiny bugs versus people.
Clubs, members only, rules, and bullies were discussed quite a bit this week with our Best Friends Club story. Students are also enjoying being able to listen to their stories on CD! During math, we have been drilling skip counting so much that this week we took a step back to remember fact fluency. Students really enjoyed Mrs. Haste flash card games!
As always, please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions!
I look forward to seeing you all at parent teacher conferences next week.
